Classical pianist Tokio Myers was crowned the winner of Britain's Got Talent 2017 during Saturday night's live final.

He had tough competition in the action-packed show, narrowly beating runner-up Issy Simpson, an eight-year-old child magician, and comedian Daliso Chaponda.

NDLEA arrests another Saudi-bound pilgrim with cocaine

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos have intercepted a 54-year-old single mother of four, Modinat Oluwayemisi Owolabi, on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with substances that tested positive for cocaine.

The suspect, who hails from Kwara State, was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar airline flight to Saudi Arabia after testing positive to drug ingestion.

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has vowed to use all legal means to recover N50.5 billion allegedly looted by the immediate past administration ex-Gov. Ibrahim Shema.

Mr. Masari made this vow in Katsina on Saturday while receiving the Report of the Commission of Inquiry that investigated the whereabouts of some funds and property under Shema’s administration.

Thugs attack two journalists in Abakaliki

Two journalists, Charles Otu of the Guardian newspaper, and Samuel Nweze, publisher of the People’s Leader, have been attacked in Abakaliki, Ebonyi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Jude Madu, confirmed the two incidents and said that the police have launched investigation to unravel the motive behind the attacks.

World Bank injects $59 million in additional financing to support Mozambique’s education priorities

The World Bank Board of Executive Directors approved yesterday the third additional financing to the Republic of Mozambique’s Education Sector Support Project (ESSP) in the amount of US$59 million equivalent. This International Development Association credit supports the ESSP goals to improve access to and quality and equity of education in Mozambique. The funds will be channelled through the Education Sector Support Fund, known as FASE from its Portuguese acronym, which receives financial contributions from nine donors in support of the implementation of the country’s 2016-2019 Education Strategic Plan.

NJC recalls Justice Ademola, five other judges accused of corruption

The National Judicial Council has recalled a Federal High Court judge, Adeniyi Ademola, who was suspended alongside seven other judges following allegations of corruption brought against them by the federal government.

In a statement Saturday, the council said Mr. Ademola was recalled alongside five other judges.

Five arrested for beating pregnant woman to death in Adamawa

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Moses Jitoboh, has confirmed the arrest of five suspects for beating a pregnant woman to death for alleged witchcraft.

Jitoboh told newsmen in Yola on Saturday that the 32-year-old woman, Ayina Afraimu, of Falu village in Guyuk Local Government Area of the state, was killed by the suspects who used sticks and rope.
