Power Outage: Confusion At Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has expressed regret over Wednesday’s minor power outage that disrupted business at the terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Texas chemical fire explosion: Two blasts and black smoke rise from Arkema plant

Smoke and an explosion were reported on Thursday at the flood-hit Arkema SA chemical plant in Crosby, Texas, following floods caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The company evacuated remaining workers at the damaged plant on Tuesday, and Harris County ordered the evacuation of residents within a 1.5-mile (2.4-km) radius of the plant, which makes organic peroxides used in the production of plastic resins, polystyrene, paints and other products.
Houston TV station Fox 26 reported the explosion.

Family of Christian girl put in foster care with Muslim family begged to let her stay with grandmother

The biological family of a five-year-old Christian girl sent to live with conservative Muslim foster carers reportedly begged the council to let the child stay with her grandmother, it has emerged.

Tower Hamlets council in east London rejected a number of attempts to move the girl to different families, including attempts to send her into temporary care with her grandparent.

We continue in our study as we introduce the writer of the Book of James. From our last article, we understood that the Epistle was written by the stepbrother of Jesus who became a Christian when he discovered that Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of God as promised. He became the eldest son of Mary after the death of Jesus, as he had no choice but to acquiesce to the call of God. We also discovered that he was immediately engrafted into the league of the disciples and was referred to as, James, the brother of our Lord Jesus.

BREAKING: Charly Boy, OurMumuDonDo group, demand Diezani’s extradition from UK

Missing USS McCain sailors all found

The remains of all 10 sailors who went missing after the USS John S. McCain and an oil tanker collided near Singapore last week have been recovered by divers, the U.S. Navy said Monday.

Navy and Marine Corps divers had been searching in flooded compartments of the destroyer for days after the damaged ship docked in Singapore.

The cause of the Aug. 21 collision is under investigation.

The crash ripped a gash in the McCain’s hull, flooding crew berths and machinery and communications rooms.

The commander of the Navy’s Japan-based 7th Fleet was fired last week after a series of accidents this year raised questions about its operations. The firing of Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, a three-star admiral, was a rare dismissal of a high-ranking officer for operational reasons.

Kenya just imposed the world's toughest law against plastic bags

Kenyans producing, selling or even using plastic bags will risk imprisonment of up to four years or fines of $40,000 from Monday, as the world's toughest law aimed at reducing plastic pollution came into effect.

The East African nation joins more than 40 other countries that have banned, partly banned or taxed single use plastic bags, including China, France, Rwanda, and Italy.

Police warn Enugu drivers, passengers against collecting edibles from strangers

The Police in Enugu State have warned drivers and passengers against collecting edibles from strangers who use drugs on people and dispossess them of their belongings.
 
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.

Facebook, Instagram experience outages Saturday

Saturday morning turned out to be social-media-free for a number of Facebook and Instagram users, albeit involuntarily.

Some people reported difficulties accessing the two social platforms beginning at about 9 a.m. ET, according to Down Detector, a site that tracks real-time outages and other online issues. 

US to African looters: You can’t go scot free anymore

The United States has sent a strongly worded warning  to corrupt African political office holders, who illegally enrich themselves at the expense of their poor people,  that they would no longer go scot free. They will be investigated, held accountable and punished.

The warning was given by US Department of Justice after a New York court jailed Mahmoud Thiam, a  50 year-old former minister of mines and geology of the Republic of Guinea, who was living big in America on the bribe  he collected from a Chinese company. He was jailed seven years. He will spend three of the years under supervised release, for laundering bribes paid to him by executives of China Sonangol International Ltd. (China Sonangol) and China International Fund, SA (CIF).
